Recital Series - Public Concerts
Amaury Morales' program, "A Musical Tour Through Latin America", will be a sample of piano music from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. Composers represented are: Rafael Bullumba Landestoy, Amaury Morales, Andres Alen, Ernesto Lecuona, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Ponce and Alberto Ginastera. These compositions by Amaury are an arrangement of Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette" and a set of variations on a theme of John Carpenter. It will be good to hear Ginastera's Piano Sonata No. 1 which was written for and premiered by Johanna Harris in Pittsburgh's First International Festival of Contemporary Music. Amaury's program should provide much-needed insight into largely-un-known and under-appreciated music for the piano.
